MagiKats Tuition is a new and exciting nationwide programme which develops the skills of students of all abilities in maths and English. MagiKats Tuition has two components: The Workshops and The Homework Pack
The Workshops
Every week the student comes to a MagiKats Tuition workshop. Here they work in a small group of students of a similar age with a MagiKats Tutor. (Maximum size of 6). In the workshop they work through a topic at the appropriate level for their Key Stage. Children soon make good friends with the other members of their group and enjoy the mixture of educational activities that are planned for each workshop.
The Homework Pack
The students are given a homework pack of 5 pieces of work at the workshop.The homework pack is devised for each student individually and practises the core skills that Lorraine has identified that the child needs to learn or practise. Each child's homework pack is different - because each child is different and needs to practise different things. Lorraine spends at least 3 days a week just setting and organising the homework for each individual child. It is this dedication and personal attention to her students that ensure the child's progress!
When children are set work with such care they soon flourish. The homework pack is easy enough to improve the child's confidence and difficult enough to provide a challenge. Each day's assignment takes about 5 or 10 minutes, however such regular practice pays huge rewards! The child soon recognises their improving skill and their confidence blooms! The become less reliant on others for motivation and learning support and become self reliant, confident learners!

The MagiKats Tuition at DCEd
The MagiKats programme takes children from 4 to 16. We cover letters to literature, sounds to similes, times tables to trigonmetry, and adding to algebra. Children who have worked on the MagiKats programme for a long time will face any exam with confidence. Other children may find KS exams, entrance exams and GCSE exams a daunting prospect. We provide special sessions to prepare children for these exams so that they can maximise their chances of success.
The Role of the Parents
Parents must encourage their child to complete the homework pack every week. (Don't worry - we proviide advice and help on motivating students). Parents must mark the homework every day. (Don't worry about this either - we provide you with the answers and guidance on how to mark). Parents must get their child to the workshops if possible.
Times
The workshops are held in Chester le Street on Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. until 4:40 p.m. and from 4:50 until 5:30 p.m. The workshops are held at the Parish Centre in Chester le Street.
The Durham workshops are held on Tuesdays from 4:00 p.m. until 4:40 p.m., from 4:40 p.m. until 5:20 p.m. and from 5:20 to 6:00 p.m. The workshops are held at Meadowfield Leisure Centre.
The Lanchester workshops are held at Lanchester Community Centre on Thursdays 4:00 to 4:40 and 4:50 to 5:30 p.m.
